{"id":2596,"date":"2020-09-15T08:35:44","date_gmt":"2020-09-15T08:35:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hw54cbnnbb.preview.infomaniak.website\/news\/september-21-european-day-against-islamophobia\/"},"modified":"2020-09-15T08:35:44","modified_gmt":"2020-09-15T08:35:44","slug":"september-21-european-day-against-islamophobia","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/diversite-europe.eu\/en\/news\/september-21-european-day-against-islamophobia\/","title":{"rendered":"September 21 : European Day Against Islamophobia"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The situation in Europe is worrying&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p><strong>National laws partially or totally prohibiting the full Islamic veil in public areas have increased<\/strong> over the last decade, first in <strong>France<\/strong> and <strong>Belgium<\/strong>, <strong>Bulgaria<\/strong>, <strong>Austria<\/strong>, <strong>Norway<\/strong>, <strong>Denmark<\/strong>, the Italian regions of <strong>Lombardy<\/strong> and <strong>Veneto<\/strong>, and in the <strong>Netherlands<\/strong> last year. In 2016,<strong> the Court of Justice of the European Union<\/strong> ruled in favour of banning the headscarf for a Belgian employee who was dismissed because she wanted to wear it in the workplace, in the name of the principle of neutrality established within the company. Recently, a motion concerning <strong>the wearing of religious symbols<\/strong> (on the basis of which a woman wearing a headscarf would be authorised to work in the commune of Molenbeek) has provoked debate and splits, taking on a national dimension in Belgium &#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>&#8230; But the fight goes on!<\/h2>\n<p>However, we would like to underline some advances in favour of the defence of <strong>the fundamental right to freedom of conscience and religion<\/strong>, such as :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the affirmation by the French Council of State that the <strong>burkini<\/strong> (a bathing suit covering the body and hair but not the face) <strong>does not cause a disturbance to public order<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>the rejection, last July, of the ban on the burqa by the Swiss Parliament ;<\/li>\n<li>the creation by the EU of a post of <strong>the coordinator on combating anti-Muslim hatred<\/strong> in 2015;<\/li>\n<li><strong>the recognition by some politicians<\/strong>, such as Frans Timmermans, <strong>of Islamophobia<\/strong> as a &#8220;growing phenomenon&#8221;;<\/li>\n<li>Several projects carried out by civil society to raise public awareness of the phenomenon of Islamophobia but also to support those who are confronted with it;<\/li>\n<li>&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Join POUR LA SOLIDARIT\u00c9-PLS<\/strong> and its partners in<strong> the fight against Islamophobia ! It was initiated by a Muslim student gathering.
